I’ve handled several birch bark albums from the Victorian to the Deco era, generally from New England and North Eastern Canada. While this little souvenir is simply bark, with text in ink and likely given as a gift of remembrance or friendship, often the birch bark ‘paper’ is mounted onto stiff paper or boards, much like an albumen photo.
